Soil Sensitivity to Wind and Water Erosion as Affected by Land Use in Southern Iran

چکیده

Land degradation by soil erosion is one of the most severe environmental issues that greatly dependent on land use management. In this study, effects long-term management (including annual cultivated field (ACF), fallow (FF), rangeland (R), and orchard (OF)), depth (0–10 10–20 cm), organic matter content (SOM) wind- water-erosion indices were investigated in calcareous soils southern Iran. Soil samples collected from four above-mentioned land-use types, some properties measured. Results showed aggregates stability surface layer cm) OF higher than those ACF, FF, R, respectively, nearly 39%, 32%, 47% for dry mean weight diameter (MWDdry); 10%, 48% geometric (GMDdry); 21%, 17%, 15% water-stable (WSA); 11%, 16%, 31% aggregate index (ASI). Moreover, wind indicators lower 18%, 24%, 26%, wind-erodible fraction (EF); 43%, 38%, 49% erodibility to (K); 36%, 41% rate (ER). despite high clay content, such as MWøDdry WSA lowest among studied types which negative conventional tillage practices. Depth factor had only a significant effect dust emission potential (DEP) OF. addition, there strong correlations between SOM MWDdry (r = 0.79), 0.77), EF −0.85), K 0.74), ER 0.74) all datasets.

Remote sensing of land use/cover changes and its effect on wind erosion potential in southern Iran

Wind erosion is a complex process influenced by different factors. Most of these factors are stable over time, but land use/cover and land management practices are changing gradually. Therefore, this research investigates the impact of changing land use/cover and land management on wind erosion potential in southern Iran. We used remote sensing data (Landsat ETM+ and Landsat 8 imagery of 2004 a...

Soil Diversity as Affected by Land Use in China: Consequences for Soil Protection

Rapid land-use change in recent decades in China and its impact on terrestrial biodiversity have been widely studied, particularly at local and regional scales. However, the effect of land-use change on the diversity of soils that support the terrestrial biological system has rarely been studied. Here, we report the first effort to assess the impact of land-use change on soil diversity for the ...

The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...

Tea yield and soil properties as affected by slope position and aspect in Lahijan area, Iran

Soil genesis, physico-chemical properties and tea yield were investigated along different hillslope positions in the major tea cultivation area of Iran, i.e. Lahijan, Gilan Province. Land suitability was also determined for the tea production in this hilly region. Four different slope positions i.e., summit, shoulder, backslope and toeslope were sampled on three slope aspects following the prof...
